The NZR We Locomotive – A NZ Model Railway Guild Reference Album
Author: Alex M. Smith
Publisher: The New Zealand Model Railway Guild Incorporated
Three We class locomotives were built by converting class B 4-8-0 locomotives to tank engines, initially for use on the Rimutaka Incline. The first two came into service in 1902, and until 1909 worked the Rimutaka (Remutaka) Incline. In due course they were transferred to Greymouth to work the steep Rewanui branch.
The book starts with a history of the locomotive class, then moves into a photo essay of each of the locos working at various stages of their lives. Also included are general arrangement, side tank, cab and coal bunker and bogie drawings.
With its description of the locomotive’s history and its big, clear photos “The NZR We Locomotive” is an excellent addition to any railway enthusiast’s library.
