Description

This Fridge Magnet depicts Drewry railcar RM114, from a painting by well-known artist Paul Johnson of Christchurch New Zealand.

The 35 Drewry Car Company designed twinset railcars were built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company (BCRW) in the early – mid 1950s along with many NZR shunt locomotives. Despite some reliability issues they replaced many passenger trains throughout both the North and South Islands.

No railcars of this class survived into preservation, however the shells of two of the class (RM122 and RM131) have survived and are being rebuilt into an operating railcar by the Pahiatua Railcar Society.
